This week, the Family Mediators Association are promoting Family Mediation Week. This event aims to raise awareness of mediation and how it can help separating families manage their issues collaboratively and productively.
The SCCR is a National Resource Centre for best practice in conflict resolution, mediation and early intervention work. The SCCR supports young people, parents/carers and professionals to manage conflict better.
Our latest project ‘Get to know your emotional homunculus’, helps us to be more aware of the part of the brain that uses feelings and emotions to decide how we will act and react. How much better could our relationships be if we had a better understanding of why we and those around us respond to conflict in different ways?
As a mediator working with young people and their families I am using this new resource to help my clients understand why conflict can escalate so quickly and what they can do help prevent this happening. Spending some time with clients and talking through the resources with them has already been helpful.
Check out this new resource on the SCCR website and let us know how would you use these resources with the young people and families you work with?
