Carers Week 8-14th June 2020 – Make Caring Visible

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring. In particular Carers Week aims to highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and to recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. There are 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers, looking after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness or who needs extra help as they grow older.
The SCCR has had the privilege of helping many carers and organisations that support carers, to manage conflict as well as possible. The carers that we have worked with have been outstanding individuals, who often pause on their own dreams and aspirations to prioritise their family member or friend above themselves. It has never been more important that we recognise the contribution carers make to their families and local communities, and that those carers they get the recognition and support that they need.

I totally agree Andrew, carers are most definitely our unsung heroes. I spent the last three years caring for my elderly mum who had dementia and the experience I would not change as I loved my mum dearly, it certainly gave me a real insight into the carers world.

The National Wellbeing Hub have a section dedicated to carers and there is some quite good information on it https://www.promis.scot/resource/unpaid-carers

And Shared Care Scotland Take a Break reopened for applications from 12 noon on Monday 18 May to 5.00pm on Monday 29 June 2020 https://takeabreakscotland.org.uk/apply-online/
