School and "the future"

School was a difficult subject of discussion for me when I was younger. My parents had to ask a lot of questions to get any information out of me. But they stuck with me, and I knew they cared, so it helped.

What other things can we do to make conversations about school and “the future” a bit easier?

Parents who had negative or difficult times when were at school can find it challenging when discussing or engaging with the school. Schools need to be more open to parents, inviting them in to parent nights for parents, informal even fun nights just for parents. This, I believe will break down barriers, stereotypes and perceptions making it easier for parents to converse with their children, teachers and even the authority, providing added value to child’s learning and living experience and improving relationships.
